Creating and Editing Naming Convention Profiles for i-models

A naming convention profile is a template that you apply to a job that defines how the files that get created by the job are to be named. More specifically, it defines the name (file name and document name), description, and extension to be applied to the files created by the job.

When creating an i-model publishing job, each type of i-model you select to create has a preconfigured naming convention profile assigned to it by default. You can use the default profiles as is, you can edit them, or you can create your own profiles.

Naming Convention Profiles for Intermediate Files

Use the steps below to create or edit a naming convention profile for intermediate files.

  1. Begin to edit or create an i-model publishing job.
  2. On the iCS for i-models tab of the Job Builder, turn on Create intermediate files and click the Options button.

    The Options dialog opens.

  3. In the Intermediate section, click in the Naming convention profile field and then click the ... button that appears in the field.

The Naming Convention Profile Manager dialog opens.

There is one delivered naming convention profile for intermediate files, called Default intermediate output file naming conventions.

  4. To create a profile, click the Add Profile icon.

    or

To edit a profile, select a profile in the list and click the Set Profile Properties icon.

The rest of the steps assume you are creating a profile. The controls in the Create and Edit dialogs are the same.

The Create New ... dialog opens.

  5. In the Name field, enter a name for the profile.
  6. In the Description field, enter a description of the profile.
  7. The File name pattern field defines the name (both the file name and document name) to be applied to all intermediate files that get created by this job. For intermediate files the naming pattern will always be <Document.BaseFileName>. Because the name cannot be changed for this type of i-model, this field is disabled from editing.
  8. Using the File description pattern field, configure a description to be applied to all intermediate files that get created by this job.

You can directly edit this field. You can also insert variables by clicking the Add Symbol button and using the Add Symbol Dialog that opens to select which variables you want to use.

In the default naming convention profile, the default value for this field is:

    Published i-model created from <Document.BaseFileName><Extension.SrcFileExt>

  9. The File extension pattern defines the file extension to be applied to all intermediate files that get created by this job. For intermediate files the file extension will alway be the extension of the source file plus I.DGN, therefore this field shows that the <Extension.SrcFileExt><Extension.IDGNExt> variables will be used. Because the extension cannot be changed for this type of i-model, this field is disabled from editing.
  10. Click OK.

The new profile is added to the Naming Convention Profile Manager dialog.

  11. Select the profile you want to set as the default and click OK.

Naming Convention Profiles for Packages

    The Options dialog opens.

  3. In the Package section, click in the Naming convention profile field and then click the ... button that appears in the field.

The Create New Naming Convention Profile dialog opens.

  5. In the Name field, enter a name for the profile.
  6. In the Description field, enter a description of the profile.
  7. Using the File name pattern field, configure the name (both the file name and document name) to be applied to all package files that get created by this job.

You can directly edit this field. You can also insert variables by clicking the Add Symbol button and using the Add Symbol Dialog that opens to select which variables you want to use.

In the default naming convention profile, the default value for this field is:

    <Document.BaseFileName>-package

  8. Using the File description pattern field, configure a description to be applied to all package files that get created by this job.

You can directly edit this field. You can also insert variables by clicking the Add Symbol button and using the Add Symbol Dialog that opens to select which variables you want to use.

In the default naming convention profile, the default value for this field is:

    Packaged i-model created from <Document.BaseFileName><Extension.SrcFileExt>

  9. The File extension pattern defines the file extension to be applied to all package files that get created by this job. For package files, the file extension is always just I.DGN (without the source file extension), therefore this field shows that the <Extension.IDGNExt> variable will be used. Because the extension cannot be changed for this type of i-model, this field is disabled from editing.
  10. Click OK.

The new profile is added to the Naming Convention Profile Manager dialog.

  11. Select the profile you want to set as the default and click OK.

You can directly edit this field. You can also insert variables by clicking the Add Symbol button and using the Add Symbol Dialog that opens to select which variables you want to use.

In the default naming convention profile, the default value for this field is:

    i-model created from <Document.BaseFileName><Extension.SrcFileExt>

  9. The File extension pattern defines the file extension to be applied to all i-model files that get created by this job. For i-model files, the file extension is always just .IMODEL, therefore this field shows that the <Extension.IMODELExt> variable will be used. Because the extension cannot be changed for this type of i-model, this field is disabled from editing.
